In a damning accusation Long Island politician Jeffrey Toback, a member of the Nassau County Legislature, has filed suit against the search engine Google. The claim is that Google is the beneficiary of profits from child porn. This is a major accusation that even I have to find issue with. I may not be the biggest Google fan these days but, this is nuts. Or is it?

“This case is about a multi-billion dollar company that promotes and profits from child pornography,” said the complaint filed in state Supreme Court in Mineola.

I want very much to believe that this is nothing more than a witch hunt. I find it odd that the suit does not name other search engines such as Yahoo and MSN.

“When we find or are made aware of any child pornography, we remove it from our products, including our search engine,” [Google] spokesman Steve Langdon said in an e-mail statement to The Associated Press. “We also report it to the appropriate law enforcement officials and fully cooperate with the law enforcement community to combat child pornography.”

Now, is this a politician trying to make a name for himself? Or is there merit to this case? (insert deity), I really hope not.
