The title says it all but, I think what is more important here is that Bush got caught with his hand in the cookie jar…again. This time for the questionable searches of financial transaction data under the guise of hunting for the terrorist boogey-men. Again I’m torn with the logic of the stated purpose and the darkness in mens hearts.
“For people to leak that program and for a newspaper to publish it does great harm to the United States of America,” Bush said, jabbing his finger for emphasis. He said the disclosure of the program “makes it harder to win this war on terror.”
The program has been going on since shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. It was disclosed last week by the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and the Los Angeles Times.
This is further evidence that the Bush Administration has little regard for the rights and freedoms of the American people. Yes, I fully agree that terrorists are bad news both home and abroad. Hunt them down. But, as this is was a “secret” program what controls are in place to ensure that this ability has not been abused by the Bush White House? It’s a long way off but, I’m really looking forward to seeing a President that is ACTUALLY elected to office. Be they Democrat or Republican is of little concern to me but, a legitimate leader…that would be novel.
