Three hapless would be thieves tried to pull of the swindle of their lives…had it worked. The FBI scooped up these mutton heads when they tried to sell a Coke trade secret to Pepsi. In a moment of good corporate citizenship, or the recipe was awful, Pepsi informed Coke and the FBI.
On May 19, PepsiCo gave Coca-Cola a copy of a letter mailed to PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP) in Purchase, N.Y., in an official Coca-Cola business envelope. The letter, postmarked from the Bronx, was from an individual identifying himself as “Dirk,” who claimed to be employed at a high level with Coca-Cola and offered “very detailed and confidential information.” Coca-Cola immediately contacted the FBI and an undercover FBI investigation began. The FBI investigation determined that Dirk was Dimson.
Well, turns out that this “high level” employee was little more than an office admin who had access. Further evidence that the insider threat is very real.
