Wow, I didn’t think that he would admit to the existence of these prisons. One of the worst kept secrets going but, rather significant to admit to them. But, I have to pause for a second to wonder. What is the motivation for this disclosure? Could it be the sinking popularity of leaders in Pakistan, Britain, Mexico and Canada? Not to mention frosty relations with several European countries. Not that there are necessarily prisons in any of the aforementioned. No one is entirely sure where they are exactly.

“The announcement is the first time the administration has acknowledged the existence of CIA prisons, which have been a source of friction between Washington and some allies in Europe. The administration has come under criticism for its treatment of terrorism detainees. European Union lawmakers said the CIA was conducting clandestine flights in Europe to take terror suspects to countries where they could face torture.”

Or could it be the falling numbers for the Republicans? Or the soldiers death toll that has now surpassed that of the World Trade Center? Whatever the motivation may be it is an interesting turn of events. Could this be the harbinger of a shift in the US political right? I’m fairly certain that we will see troops start to come home prior to the elections. The Iraqis will suddenly be “ready” to take over. Cynical, yes I am. But, to have seen so many good soldiers go off to meet their fate for uncertain reasons is hard to accept.
