Adobe has another new set of releases of their Reader, Flash Player and Acrobat products. Their product update process is a pain in the arse. That being said, this update will apparently address a zero day issue which has left a hole in their products for several weeks. From Adobe’s security advisory posted June 4th there is a positive aspect. The patch has been released ahead of schedule. Originally seet for release on July 13th they took some initiative and got the patch out early.

Wonders never cease.

From Krebs On Security:

Adobe Systems Inc. is urging users to update installations of Adobe Reader and Acrobat to fix a critical flaw that attackers have been exploiting to break into vulnerable systems.

The update brings Adobe Acrobat and Reader to version 9.3.3 (another update for the older 8.2 line of both products brings the latest version to v. 8.2.3). Patches are available for Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris versions of these programs.

Adobe has demonstrated an unfortunate performance regarding the security of their products. This early release might be a flook but, I hope for everyone’s sake that they are finally starting to get it.

  1. Nope…it’s not really early. On June 24th Adobe realized it would have to move up the schedule and announced it for June 29th…the issues were too serious to wait. A total of 17 problems addressed by the patch(es).
