Anonymous Snatching Defeat From The Jaws of Victory?

The group Anonymous reacted swiftly to the take down and apprehension of Megaupload owners. Unfortunately this comes right on the heels of the anti-SOPA protests January 18, 2012. The worry here being is, is Anonymous snatching defeat from the jaws of victory?

Anonymous posted this video address:

They reacted by lashing out at a series of websites on January 19, 2012 with a large denial of service attack that offlined FBI.gov and several other sites.

While I can understand their frustration this really doesn’t do much to help their cause. What is worse is that this has the very real possibility of overshadowing, or at least detracting from, the gains made in the anti-SOPA fight. As I have mentioned before this really does little more than to steel the resolve of politicians and law enforcement to hunt down Anons in general. There has to be a better way.

From Dark Reading:

Also in the crosshairs of the hacktivists: the White House website, which as of this posting remained online, although Anonymous members were calling for targeting it as well. And security experts say this latest — and possibly biggest — DDoS campaign by Anonymous is far from over, with more targets to come. According to one tweet from AnonDaily, this is the largest attack by the hacktivist group, with more than 5,600 people using the Low Orbit Ion Cannon (LOIC) DDoS tool.

Ah yes, the LOIC…a DoS tool that does NOT hide the IP of the attacker. This will not end well.
