There was a time when it was the cool place to be. Black Hat in Vegas, followed by DefCon that is. Now, as I stab myself in the leg to stay awake in class, I’m struck by the lack of basic understanding that a large number of the Black Hat attendees are exhibiting. My favourite so far has been a self professed CSO of an insurance company that seems to lack common sense. He has been spouting his font of wisdom and people in the room that have been doing this for years all cringe.
This guy makes me want to cry.
Now, please understand I will never begrudge someone for a lack of understanding. Especially if they are there to learn and better themselves. More of it I say. But, when some blow hard is drowning out the class with is accumulated “knowledge” I’m struck by 2 thoughts. First off, how did this guy ever get the “CSO” job in the first place? The second thought is this, what company does he work for? So, I can dump their stock if I have it in my portfolio. I have recognized a lot of people from the past and spotted a lot of new faces. Grouching aside it’s a good conference that’s worth attending.
All in all it has been a good time so far and I’m really looking forward to the briefings tomorrow.
