Cameron Threatens To Shut Down UK Social Networks

All in the name of security Cameron wants to have the ability to shut off access to social networks in times of crisis.

Wow.

From thinq_:

Speaking in the House of Commons, Cameron said, “Everyone watching these horrific actions will be struck by how they were, organised via social media.

“Free flow of information can be used for good. But it can also be used for ill. So we are working with the police, the intelligence services and industry to look at whether it would be right to stop people communicating via these websites and services when we know they are plotting violence, disorder and criminality.”

And BBM is now considered social media? Um, ok. So, under the guise of protecting the public they want the ability to censor access to the internet? If it’s not in the name of “protecting kids” or “public unrest” they’ll find some way to squeeze social networks.

Now where have I seen this type of control leveraged before? Oh right, Egypt. How’d that work out?

Fuck off. Seriously.
