In recent years, I’ve kicked off my RSA week with a Sunday-night visit to “TongaCon,” a gathering of pretty much everyone at the Tonga Room in San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel. The event was shut down early last year because the crowd overwhelmed Tonga staff. For that and other reasons, there won’t be a TongaCon this year.
But don’t be sad. Something awesome will take place in that same space Sunday, and I can’t think of a better way to usher in RSA Conference 2016.
The (ISC)2 Foundation will throw a party to celebrate its Safe and Secure Online program, an endeavor focused on the online safety of kids, parents, teachers, and senior citizens.
The foundation describes itself this way on the website:
Imagine having access to over 110,000 cyber professionals to help you understand the do’s and don’ts of the internet. You do! Through the (ISC)² Foundation.
Born from the desire of the highly-skilled membership of (ISC)², the Foundation was created and is now devoted to empowering the people in your community to be safe and secure online through educational and awareness programs; scholarship programs; and industry and consumer research.
During RSA, the foundation will offer a half-day workshop on the challenges and threats children face online and strategies parents and caregivers can use to keep kids safe. (Download the CyberSmart Parents’ Education Workshop flyer for more information.)
Those interested can donate to the program via the website.
I’ll be there Sunday, and hope to see more than a few of you.
It will run from 6-9 p.m. at The Fairmont San Francisco — Tonga Room & Hurricane Bar, 950 Mason St.
To attend, please RSVP here.
This is a community-driven event. Marisa Fagan (@dewzi), Jennifer Leggio (@mediaphyter) and Allison Miller (@selenakyle) organized the event and have said it is both for and by the community.
In an email, Allison said, “We are grateful to our sponsors/donors who helped make the event happen. Now we can share SSO more directly and broadly amongst the infosec community.”
