Citibank Under Fraud Attack

I had just awoken from a nice Sunday afternoon nap. Refreshed and receiving a cup full of liquid gold, aka coffee, from the missus I wandered into the office. In a mood to write I trolled around looking to see if anything was going on. All quiet in the internet void. No, wait a tick. What’s this over on Boing Boing. It appears that Citibank may be expreiencing a massive fraud attack. The nature of which is a little sketchy right now. Apparently the ATM network has been compromised. No great stretch here as the links to ATM machines are not encrypted to start with for some banks. It would appear that any US Citibank customer in Canada the UK or Russia right now is sh!t out of luck.

Citibank customer:
I’m stranded in a foreign country, I need cash, and I can’t withdraw cash from my account.Citibank drone:
d00d omg we wuz 0wnzored, it is teh suck!!!1!1 Go home and we’ll re-issue a new card. Then be prepared to go through this all over again, and again, and again. TTYL!

Now there are plenty of laws that require publishing the fact that there has been a breach. My question is how long will be before Citibank comes clean?

she informed me that the ATM networks of Canada, Russia and the United Kingdom have been compromised…[and] that this has been an ongoing issue for the last two weeks.

So, bearing that in mind, if this has in fact been 2 weeks. Has this been declared? Need the info…
