Da Vinci Code Gets An “A”

Opus Dei and the Vatican thuglife tried but, in all honesty they only managed to drive people into the theatres. The Da Vinci Code was a good film. It’s that simple. For all of the negativity and christian FUD it was not a bad film. It stayed true to the book for the most part. Well, as much as was possible, it did. Now the part that I find amusing is the great lengths the church went to poison the waters and drive the fearful away from the movie. Well, it didn’t happen. With an estimated $29 million opening on the first night I’d say that the church failed miserably in it’s attempts to scare people. A glowing example of this is the bullshit from John Wauck of Opus Dei. Here’s a clip from his site.

“About the movie, my question is whether it will be flop along the lines of Bonfire of the Vanities, which seemed like a sure-fire hit and fooled everyone. The presence of Tom Hanks in both of these movies makes me wonder.”

Guess what John, you assclown, you lose. How dare a work of fiction be made into a film. Anything that challenges the original work of fiction can’t be tolerated (insert sarcasm). Here is a fantastic comment from the same site that covers it nicely.

Oh, the irony. Two works of fiction battling it out.Seriously people, does the Catholic church feel so weak that it even cares about this stuff. All of the hot air coming out of Catholics at the moment is giving the film more publicity than any money could buy. The producers of this film are definitely going to put you guys on their Christmas card list.

Keep up the hard work.

The Vatican as well, the beacon of enlightenment that it is, has come out against the Da Vinci Code movie.

The popularity of The Da Vinci Code is a shocking indication of both mass ignorance and the “voluptuous pleasure” the media take in promoting works with no basis in truth, the Vatican’s culture minister says.

The attempts to browbeat people into shunning the movie were laughable at best. The church has concern that people will not be able to tell the difference between fact and fiction. So, short story is that the church sees people as bithering morons. Nice. Just because I watch porn it doesn’t mean that a busload of hot chicks are going to show up in my hot tub and want me to disappoint them all at once.

The movie is never as good as the book is the critics refrain. Well, of course. There’s a damn good reason for that. When reading a book your mind fills in the pictures, adds colour, builds the characters. In a movie all of the imagination has been done through the eyes of the director and Ron Howard did a good job. The Critics and the Catholic Church got together and managed to do what the marketing machine for Hollywood couldn’t do. A great sales pitch. I thought it was a good movie. Go see it and make your own decision.
