Durham Cops Hacked…Again

The Durham police force is having a rough go of things with their website. Last week they were hacked for the second time this year. The first time occurred last March when defacers altered the website. At that time the site was running IIS 5.0 and was basically waiting to get picked off again. Looks like the waiting is over.

From NewsDurhamRegion.com

“We have been hacked again,” Dave Selby, head of corporate communications with the service, said Friday morning. “We’ve temporarily shut the site down so we can address that problem.”

But Mr. Selby made assurances no sensitive or classified information was accessible to those who breached www.drps.ca, a public information site he likened to a “storefront”.

“There’s no sensitive data” on the site, which hosts press releases, program updates and information for members of the public seeking various services associated with the Durham police, Mr. Selby said.

“There’s no access to police systems [ed. other than their website]. It’s a completely separate system.”

I love their spin doctors. They make me smile. I must say (a la Ed Grimley).

All kidding aside they are a good group of men and women. I find my real amusement in their communication folks. Sigh.

The site was still down at post time.
