Sweet merciful christ on tricycle…this just keeps getting worse. The latest addition to the rogues gallery of laptops that have been stolen, is one containing data from Equifax Inc. Yes, you read that correctly Equifax Inc. The very company that is a deciding factor as to whether or not you might get a car loan or a mortgage. (insert scream).
Employee names and partial and full Social Security numbers were on the computer’s hard drive, though Rubinger said it would be almost impossible for the thief to decipher the information because it was streamed together. “It would be very difficult to link this information and determine they were actual Social Security numbers in the first place,” he said.
Oh no, he didn’t say what I think he said did he? The data is not encrypted. It wouldn’t take an MIT grad to figure out the information. The employee responsible has apparently been scolded for his policy violation. But, if broke policy…how many other Equifax employees engage in a similar practice?
