I did not know Brandon Crisp. From the moment news broke that he had been missing for several days, I was gripped by the articles and pictures released. I have thought of the Crisp family daily, hoping for them in every way a mere stranger can, which was not much to offer. I tried to imagine what it was to do the daily tasks of living while being completely distraught by the disappearance of one’s own. To try and brace yourself for the worst while still keeping hope alive, I cannot imagine. I’m sad to write that that part of Brandon Crisp’s family’s story ended yesterday.
By all accounts, Brandon Crisp was a bright, athletic teenager who found joy in the heat of battle. Whether on a hockey team or an online guild, he enjoyed the thrill of competition.
From Simcoe.com:
Fifteen-year-old Andrew Hanna, a schoolmate of Brandon’s, shared with the crowd his memories of losing many a tetherball match to his friend.
Hanna said it’s important for the community to keep the focus on Brandon’s life.
“We remember Brandon as a kid who was diligent, and was smart, and always wanted to always accomplish his best,†he said.
Not wholly unusual for a teenager, Brandon Crisp ran away from home 3 weeks ago after an argument with his parents. Yesterday, a community wide search was called off after hunters discovered his body in a field several kilometers from his home. Foul play is not suspected at this time.
Communities everywhere are grieving, both the one he lived in and the ones he played in online.
Today, I ask you to remember his life and a send a few thoughts into the universe for his family and friends.
