It seems that Facebook is, yet again, in the cross hairs of another privacy debacle. Zuckerberg’s position on privacy continues to haunt the social media giant.
From MacWorld:
A Canadian law firm has filed a class-action lawsuit against Facebook, alleging the social networking company mishandled users’ private information and breached their privacy.
Merchant Law Group LLP filed the lawsuit on 2 July in Queen’s Bench court in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The law firm, which has class-action lawsuits as a large part of its business, filed the suit on behalf of Donald J. Woligroski, a Winnipeg resident and a registered Facebook user, and other class action members for an unspecified amount of damages.
We Canadians do take our privacy seriously. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I for one was all set to delete my Facebook account during the day of abandonment only to be met with the wailings of relatives. It appears that I’m a very hard person to get a hold of (moment pause for the “well duh” moment) and that is the only reason I still have an account. The real funny part is that my “personal” information on the account is less than exact shall we say. If you load private information into a social media site that is controlled by ANYONE other than yourself you’ll get what’s coming to you. Let’s be honest.
