Another day, another misguided conference. The Techno Forensics Conference has managed to face plant in glorious fashion. Hmm, sounds like an echo. Well, the Techno folks have Gregory D. Evans scheduled to speak at their conference at the end of October. Conferences really need to take the time to check on the speakers that they’re picking. I know when we pick speakers for our conference we take the time to dig into each person’s background. As we have mentioned before, this is a unfortunate choice to say the least.
Here is the abstract of Evans talk from the conference site:
How cyber criminals commit crimes. What tools they use and what laws they hide behind to protect them. These crimes include cyber stalking, computer hackers and internet fraud. Symantec, the largest security software maker says that Cyber Crime generates more money than all drug trafficking in the world. Ex-Computer hacker Gregory Evans who generated over $1 million a week will show how these criminals commit these crimes and what State and Federal laws protect these cyber criminals. Evans will demonstrate simple to use tools that can track down these cyber criminals.
/me bites tongue
The conference is being held at:
Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
October 31- November 1, 2011
Please take a moment to email jkirkpatrick[at]viconpublishing.com to let them know what you think about their choice.
Hopefully they too will see the error in their judgement.
UPDATE (Aug 29): I’m happy to announce that the Techno Forensics Conference has seen fit to drop Evans from their agenda. Still no confirmation from them to that effect however.
UPDATE 2 (Aug 29): It appears that the fail is back on. In a rather odd turn of events Evans has reappeared on the agenda. We’re making inquiries as to what is going on.
Email sent. 🙂
@theprez98 Excellent!
mail sent last week, no response.
I never got a reply either. And unfortunate to see him back on the agenda.
