Get Your Mac, It’s Raining Trojans

Antivirus research firm Sophos is telling home users to drop their dusty old Windows boxes and to get themselves a Mac. Their angle? Well, they’re pushing Macs to help make the average home user safer from trojans, spyware and other assorted malware. The amount of malware for Mac’s is really low but, in all fairness once people start switching over to Mac computers, as I have, the malware will begin to rise.

the number of new Trojans in circulation is on the up, as is the overall level of malware. Sophos says Trojans account for 82 per cent of new threats, and outnumber new viruses by four to one. This reflects a shift in focus of the average online baddie from mischief making, to stealing money and potentially profitable information.

The modern virus writer will follow the money and while more users are on the Redmond coolaid the writers will focus on the low hanging fruit. But, that will only last so long.
