We have written about this crap before. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has run the ISP data flag up the pole again. Back on June 2nd we first saw this attempt by the Bush White House to collect ISP subscribers data under the guise of the fight against child pornography. This is where it gets a bit weird. I fully think/know/believe that pedophiles should be hunted down like the monsters that they are and dropped into general population with a sign around their necks.
Testifying to a Senate panel, Gonzales acknowledged the concerns of some company executives who say legislation might be overly intrusive and encroach on customers’ privacy rights. But he said the growing threat of child pornography over the Internet was too great.
Now, how can we be sure that this data will ONLY be used to counter child pornography? The Bush White House has not exactly won the hearts and minds of the people lately. We have seen the technology of such companies as Narus used in the illegal wiretaps with AT&T. And not even Jack Bauer would be able to find the weapons of mass deception destruction.
So, maybe I’m being a little hard on an administration that wants to ban any language other than english. Gonzales said “We respect civil liberties but we have to harmonize this so we can get more information,”. There appears to be a very real campaign to apply the “war on terror” FUD in an attempt to ferret away your rights and freedoms. When did personal privacy die? Was there a wake?
