A consultant, Thomas Colon, working out of the Springfield Ill. office, with consent assistance from agents, hacked into the FBI’s systems. The consultant gained access to systems with data from the Witness Protection Plan and other equally sensitive computers. Amongst the information that he was able to recover were numerous passwords. One of which was the password for Director Robert Muller.

Prosecutors do not believe Colon was trying to damage national security or use the information for financial gain. Still, they said in court papers, the FBI was forced to take significant steps to make sure there was no harm from Colon’s actions.

His sentencing was postponed on Tuesday and reset for July 13.

Colon, 28, lost his job and security clearance after acknowledging that he made his way into the deepest reaches of the FBI’s internal computer network on four occasions in 2004.

I have a hard time feeling bad for this guy. He should known better and now he will not be able to get a job in security again. I see a barrista in the offing.
