Iran To Execute Programmer

It really boggles the mind how deranged some countries “legal” system can be. This is perfectly horrible example of how badly things can go wrong when a government has no clue about technology. Iran to execute programmer for code? What?

Canadian/Iranian citizen Saeed Malekpour now faces the death penalty because code that he wrote was allegedly used by porn sites to upload pictures.

From Guardian:

“He is alleged to have created ‘pornographic’ internet sites and [is accused of] ‘insulting the sanctity of Islam’, for which he was charged with ‘spreading corruption on earth’, a vaguely worded charge which attracted the death penalty in Iran.

“The use of vaguely worded charges is not new in Iran, but the allegation that these were carried out on the internet is. It is an unwelcome addition to the catalogue of ways in which Iran finds it can execute its own citizens.

This is a terrible outcome from an drastically ass backwards “legal” system that is flawed in no uncertain terms. The sentence which was based on a case fraught with inconsistencies, as per the articles, has been upheld by the Iranian supreme court.

Our thoughts are with the family of Saeed Malekpour.
