IT Admin’s Hacking Spree Foiled By $5 McDonald’s Purchase

There are hackers and there this is this knothead.

An information-technology administrator has pleaded guilty to crippling his former employer’s network after FBI agents traced the attack to the Wi-Fi network at a McDonald’s restaurant in Georgia. The administrator was caught after he used his credit card to make a $5 purchase at the restaurant about five minutes before the hacks occurred.

Mental note: If you intend to be a complete douchenozzle and “hack” into a company be sure not to leave an obvious trail. And since when is (apparently) having legitimate access to your company network hacking?

This is a strong case for ensuring that your company has a sound staff add/remove process.
