It seems that there is no end to who these folks will take on. A couple hours ago they allegedly took out the CIA.gov website. It was down when we checked at 8:50 pm EST. Admittedly, there is less than zero chance that there was anything of value on that box but, this goes back to my question from the other day. Why poke the sleeping bear. Well, the bear is awake now I would imagine.
From Forbes:
The hacker group LulzSec seems determined to make as many powerful enemies as possible. Its latest target: the Central Intelligence Agency.
The hyperactive hacker team took down CIA.gov Wednesday evening, seemingly with a denial of service attack. “Tango down – cia.gov – for the lulz,†the group wrote matter-of-factly on its twitter feed.
Here is a screen shot of that announcement from their twitter feed.
Then the feud resurfaced between Lulzsec and th3j35t3r.
If nothing else this rampage by Lulzsec will keep us entertained for the short term and give plenty of marketing fodder to the security industry for years to come.
Now, I’m getting some popcorn.
