Man Accused Of Crashing UBS Servers

Sometimes “I told you so” doesn’t really cut it. I have talked about the dangers of the internal threat before. Now there is a new instance of the danger of the inside threat. A US court has heard how a pissed off IT manager wiped out UBS Paine Webber’s servers when he didn’t like the bonus that he got. The accused, Roger Duronio, is said to have planted a logic bomb and even short sold UBS stock before the incident. To make matters even funnier UBS wanted to have the proceedings secret “to avoid embarrassment and injury to the bank – the judge refused.”

Roger Duronio was paid a salary of $125,000 by the bank and was expecting a bonus of $50,000. When he only got $32,000 he decided to take revenge on the bank, prosecutors claim.

He created the logic bomb which would delete all the files in the host server in the central data centre and then every server in every branch.

Now that this trial is out of the bag it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
