This is a rather interesting time line of a guy who had is laptop stolen and managed to track in online. He was aided by folks on Twitter as he was physically no where near the thief’s location. Ultimately, after the NYPD refused to help, the victim was able to negotiate a surrender of the laptop.
Not a recommended course of action but, at least it worked out safely.
