I had tried to keep to a minimum any talk about the US Presidential campaign but, this one is hard to pass on. It turns out that the McCain campaign has gone to the Russians looking for funding.
Er, come again?
The Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations posted a letter today stating in no uncertain terms that they would decline the request.
From the press release:
We have received a letter from Senator John McCain requesting financial contribution to his Presidential campaign.
In this connection we would like to reiterate that Russian officials, the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations or the Russian Government do not finance political activity in foreign countries.
I guess the McCain campaign doesn’t see the Russians as a major threat to US security after all.
UPDATE: A tip of the hat to Innismir who pointed out that this was most likely a generic form letter sent out but, one interesting part is that it was addressed to Vitaly Churkin. Which, when you have a search on the Russian mission’s website, it turns out that he is the ambassador. Which begs the question, how did he get on their mailing list?
Oh, and the Russians/UN should really disable directory traversal.
