The Gartner Group is recommending that companies based in the US start looking elsewhere for data hosting. The Bush NSA wiretapping scandal has irked the business community with the thought that their trade secrets are being recorded by the spy agency.

On Thursday, Gartner analyst Arabella Hallawell published an advisory on the company’s Web site that warned multi-national companies to expect a customer backlash regardless of whether or not the accused companies are found guilty of passing on telephone records to the NSA.

We have even seen companies moving quickly to do damage control over this as we saw with BellSouth. Now while Gartner is saying that companies should look to the UK or Canada I would offer that Canada is the only logical choice. Why? Simple reason would be the pending legislation in the UK to force companies to disclose their encryption keys. The Gartner report goes on,

“Whether or not these reports are determined to be factual, businesses with both domestic and international employees and customers … should expect heightened sensitivity about the way they use telecommunications, Internet and other communications service providers in the United States, and be prepared to answer questions about their use of US providers,” wrote Hallawell.

Well, I can safely say that Canada is a great place to move a business.
