OWASP Support & Career Rejuvenation

These days I find I tend to lose focus. I end up wandering aimlessly through the day. This has got to stop. So, as part of my attempt to refocus I have signed up as a member of OWASP. Why? Simple. To force myself to pay attention by joining in rather than strolling on the sidelines.

OWASP is an open source project dedicated to finding and fighting the causes of insecure software. The OWASP Foundation is a not-for-profit 501c3 charitable organization not associated with any commercial product or service. OWASP member companies, educational organizations, government and law enforcement agencies, and individuals from around the world form an application security community that works together to create articles, methodologies, documentation, tools, and technologies (“OWASP Materials”).

By doing this I’m taking a first step on the path to rejuvenating my career. Do I have a bad job? Hell no. But, I have lacked the enthusiasm that drew me to the security space 10 years ago. By giving back to the community that has (let’s face it) given us all so much I’m helping to wake myself up. I certainly hope that this plan of mine will work. While I miss the caffeine induced euphoric 4 am pentesting sessions, as I get older I find I’m enjoying my sleep much more than I once did.

It’s a small step. A worthy organization. A (re) beginning.
