I have put in my share of long hours before. There as been a few nights where I wandered home at 3 am only to find myself battling a raccoon over the garbage cans. This past month I have been up to my neck in auditors so this story has an interesting ring to it for me. This story, which was sent in by ‘A’, is too much.

Raluca Stroescu, a 32 years old woman working as audit manager for the Romanian branch of Ernst&Young was found dead at home at the end of last week after not showing up at work. Colleagues say she worked herself to death .

Coroners do not exclude the possibility, saying the most probable cause for death being stress combined with lack of sleep and exhaustion. However, the legal expertise is still to be expected.
Representatives of Ernst&Young think otherwise.

The part of this story that I find interesting is the attempt by E&Y to dismiss the “overworked” angle. That sort of gets thrown to the wind when you get to the sentence,

According to witness’ reports the person to find her was her own boss who discovered her after she was supposed to show for work on Saturday morning.

No, I will not be making fun of E&Y folks for losing their laptops again anytime soon. I guess this type of work ethic would certainly make sense of the laptop loss rate .
