Sarah Palin E-mail Hacker Sentenced to 1 Year in Custody

Well, the bell has tolled for the guy who managed to break into Sarah Palin’s email and post the lot to Wikileaks in 2008. We managed to be one of the first to pick up that story at the time. Well, it turns out that David Kernell will get a year in lock up for his troubles.

From Wired:

The convictions carried a maximum sentence of 20 years in custody and a possible fine of up to $250,000. Federal sentencing guidelines recommend a sentence of between 15 and 21 months in prison. The government was seeking 18 months, but Kernell’s attorney asked the court to forgo a prison sentence and give his client probation instead.

Kernell was sentenced to one year and one day in custody and three years of probation. Federal Judge Thomas W. Phillips recommended that his sentence be served in a halfway house in Tennessee, although his destination will be determined by the federal Bureau of Prisons.

Lucky little shit most likely won’t being going to prison after all. So many “don’t drop the soap” jokes that have fallen by the wayside as a result.

The troubling part of this entire story is that some half wit security firm will most likely hire this kid as a “security expert” once he serves his sentence.
