Say Hello To Voice Phishing

Scammers have taken a new spin on on phishing. They have now switched to VoIP phishing. Using a recorded message to attempt to con the unsuspecting out of their banking information. The new spin is as follows,

The attack begins with a spoofed email message (commonly with the subject line “Message 156984 Client’s Details Confirmation (Santa Barbara Bank & Trust”). Instead of seeking to persuade users to visit a bogus website, these emails direct them towards phoning a number in Southern California.

With a VoIP number having the ability to be anywhere in the world this could be an alarming new trend.
