@ Judge Lets Off Guilty Teenage Hacker
“Lawyers in the case told the Associated Press that officers were interested in using Walker’s skills for positive purposes and Detective Inspector Peter Devoy said that option was open.”
What? What the hell did they just say? The kid wrote malware, it’s not like he cracked some major systems with homebrewed vulnerabilities that shook the world of information security. It’s a botnet, it’s not ‘leet’, its lame as hell and I can’t believe they let him go.
Big props to New Zealand and Dutch police, the FBI and the US Secret Service. Way to send a strong message that botnets and malware will not be tolerated.
Somewhat astounding that they would reward this type of behaviour. I mean, I know this happens but, for them to admit the recruitment publicly is just a sad commentary on how badly the parties involved just don’t “get it”.
