Shmoocon 2009 In Review

James and Dave on the Hallway Track

Wow.

Ok – as my first Shmoocon experience (and Dave’s too) I have to say that The Shmoo Group pulls off a class act in cons… and it cannot be understated that attention to detail on the part of the con organizer makes *all* the difference.

The talks were all rather good, some minor bumps along the path, but good. The hallway track was, however, AWESOME. Dean at carnalOwnage may have put it best in his posting:

I really did not attend that many (talks) either to be honest. 🙂 It’s becoming more and more apparent to me that the true value of the cons are in the opportunity to network and bounce ideas off your peers.

Walking around I saw small clusters of people everywhere. All talking and sharing ideas and information.

There are a zillion and one summaries of the content now available from Shmoocon, so I won’t repeat it all here, merely point you at a few interesting ones:

As I’ve said before, don’t use ATMs at Hacker Conventions.

Jay Beale finally let Middler out of the box too. Finally.

Oh, and by the way, the CFPs for the big summer events opened up this week… Blackhat and Defcon Why not go and submit something amazing.
