Telus announced last week that they have purchased all of the outstanding shares of Assurent (formerly FSC Internet). The employees will join their “Business Resiliency Services.
“We are excited about joining the TELUS team as both Assurent and TELUS share a commitment to providing IT security solutions that help our customers protect their assets, identities and private information,” said Richard Reiner, Chief Technology Officer, Assurent.
Now this is all well and good and all the power to them but, I have a question. What happens to the data? This is where things get curious. Assurent’s “core business includes security software, vulnerability research, and related engineering and consulting services.” Now, a couple of these services were penetration tests and security audits. The list of Assurent client’s included Bell and Rogers. Both of these companies are direct competitors of Telus. So who, I ask you, owns the data?
