In an alarming development 17 individuals (read=”homegrown crazies”) were rounded up in a terror sweep by multiple Canadian police agencies. Alarming because this is in my own backyard. I was in Washington on Sept. 11 and I did not care for that experience one bit. I’m very happy that these characters were rounded up before anything could transpire.

The operation was so complex and tightly shrouded that everyone involved — including all the roughly 400 police officers who scooped up the 17 suspected Islamic extremists Friday and Saturday — had to sign the Official Secrets Act, pledging total discretion.Targets of the alleged plot included political and economic symbols such as the Parliament Buildings and Peace Tower in Ottawa, along with the CN Tower and Toronto Stock Exchange in Toronto.

These guys allegedly were planning to build devices much in the same vein of Timothy McVeigh when he murdered 168 people at the Oklahoma City’s Alfred P. Murrah building. The amusing part of this is that these characters were apparently dumb as a bag of hammers. They purchased the three tonnes ammonium nitrate…in a single order.

  1. It’s hard to believe anyone would want to target Canada of all places. Canada rarely gets involved in any international conflicts and has few enemies. However, they seem to have incredibly lenient immigration laws. They need to address that issue.

  2. I have to disagree with you on the immigration point. It’s a popular misconception in the US that we have lax laws. In this case these young guys were born and raised in Canada so no real meat for that arguement.

    Thanks for the comment.

    cheers.
