I’m sitting flipping through the channels, trying to forget the horror of my day-to-day and came across a tease/bumper for “Marketplace” on CBC (the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation – sort of exactly not like the British Broadcasting Corporation – all of the tax burden, none of the good shows).

This episode of Marketplace is all about…

HOW YOUR IDENTITY IS BEING STOLEN RIGHT NOW

Marketplace Homepage

Cut to shot of “professional security guy” with slicked back hair, using a WINDOWS laptop in the back of a van. I didn’t catch his name, and Marketplace doesn’t believe in bottom thirds. Suffice to say that he really needs to look into some new tools. Heck – the BackTrack LiveCD would be better than what he was doing.

Professional Security Guy – should you be reading this… understand me… I know that you were using the Windows version of Netstumbler and Nessus… but mIRC… seriously… mIRC… “r u m or f?” mIRC… Also, showing off your L337 skilz and scrolling through attrition just doesn’t turn my crank.

They moved on to interviewing some privacy advocate lawyer that I also haven’t heard of while standing around Moscone South at RSA.

At no point did they actually provide a single piece of information which would actually contribute to you being more protected than not.

And I already have an email from my Mom asking about it.

Thanks Wendy Mesley. Nice “journalism” there.
