Yesterday Mozilla released version 2.0.0.0 of the Thunderbird email client software. With this release they included support for “email with message tags, advanced folder views, message history navigation, find as you type, and improved new mail alert notifications.” Now, if this has better coupling with PGP I will be a happy camper. That was one of my biggest beefs before. And to make matters worse PGP only supports Entourage out of the box for Mac. For phishing:
Thunderbird protects you from email scams which try to trick users into handing over personal and confidential information by indicating when a message is a potential phishing attempt. As a second line of defense, Thunderbird warns you when you click on a link which appears to be taking you to a different Web site than the one indicated by the URL in the message.
And there is improved junk mail filtering:
Mozilla has updated Thunderbird’s popular junk mail folders to stay ahead of spam. Each email you receive passes through Thunderbird’s leading-edge junk mail filters. Each time you mark messages as spam, Thunderbird “learns†and improves its filtering so you can spend more time reading the mail that matters. Thunderbird can also use your mail provider’s spam filters to keep junk mail out of your inbox.
I’ll be loading this one up later on today. I have one email account that is spam laden so I’ll be able to see how this actually performs.

Have you tried GPG for OS X? I dropped PGP like a bad habit when they wouldn’t support OS 10.4 with PGP 8, and PGP 9 tried to take ahold of all my mail connections.
GPG for OS X is really great and works very well with Mail.app.
@Alex
I’m a stubborn sort and I have been reticent to make the switch to Mail.app. I previously used Thunderbird on Linux (and Evolution) and I tried to stick to my guns. I did use GPG with Evolution as well. The more I think about it, I’m not sure what possessed me to install PGP on my Mac in the first place. There is also zero chance that I will use Entourage.
OK, that’s an idea. I’m going to give Mail a try this weekend with GPG.
cheers
@Alex
OK, so I have been running on Mail.app now for a couple months. And now, I’m a happy camper. It was hard to retrain my behaviours on email but, I’m loving Mail. I managed to get it to work with PGP (sort of) so, next up, GPG.
