This is interesting in a kitch kinda way. The University of Abertay in Dundee has started a BSc undergraduate degree in…hacking. The “Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures” course is due to be introduced in October 2006. I have to admit that if this had been around when I was in university I more than likely would have paid more attention and not been playing pool at the pub so much.

The university prospectus said: “In the same way that police detectives need to know how thieves can steal, computer systems administrators need to know what hackers can do.”

The university said it has launched the degree course in response to demand from industry for people with the skills to test the security of corporate IT networks.

This would have been ideal several years ago but, now the focus is less on the pentesters and more on the risk assessments for corporate networks. And what is to avoid creating the next HFG or what have you?
