University of Georgia Server Breached

UGA has made a rather unfortunate discovery. Just before the new year was to begin it turns out that hackers breached one of their servers. They apparently gained access to personal information for, what could be, thousands of students.

From WNEG 32:

Thousands of social security numbers may be at risk, after a hacker got into the University of Georgia’s campus server. University officials say this isn’t the first time this has happened, but they plan on taking all the necessary steps to notify all the persons affected.

“Sounds kind of scary,” reacts UGA Student Asia Chlopecka.

That’s the reaction of most UGA students after hearing that more than four thousand social security numbers may have ended up in the wrong hands.

“The evidence indicates a hacker working from an overseas IP address accessed the server on December 29th and 31st,” confirms Tom Jackson.
