U.S. officials investigate Sourcefire purchase

In a move that seems to be extremely suspect the US Committe on Foreign Investment in the United States has begun an investigation into the proposed sale of Sourcefire to Checkpoint Software Technologies Ltd. Richard Bejtlich first wrote about this on February 23rd.

The Associated Press is reporting that Check Point is facing a full-blown investigation over its plans to purchase open-source rival Sourcefire, makers of the widely popular Snort intrusion detection system.

I’d like to point out that this is the very same committee that approved the port sale to a UAE company. I think there is a very real possibility that we need to have a little more of this.
