VA Prescription DB Breach Notices Sent

Back at the beginning of May it became apparent that a prescription monitoring program in Virginia had its database compromised. This week the notices were mailed out to the affected.

From WHSV:

The Virginia Department of Health Professions is mailing direct individual notifications to persons whose social security numbers may have been contained in the Prescription Monitoring Program database in followup to the statewide notification provided on May 6.

“Although the investigation has yet to determine what, if any, personal information is at risk, DHP nonetheless recommends that persons remain vigilant over the next 12 to 14 months,” says Sandra Whitley Ryals, Director of the Virginia Department of Health Professions.

There are a potentially 530,000 affected people.
