Here is an interesting article on wireless hacking. Some security researchers have discovered a way to commandeer a computer via some buggy code in wireless device drivers. This hack is going to be demonstrated at Black Hat 2006. I’ll be sure to be in the room for this presentation by David Maynor. Hopefully we won’t have a repeat of last years silliness.

The two researchers used an open-source 802.11 hacking tool called LORCON (Lots of Radion Connectivity) to throw an extremely large number of wireless packets at different wireless cards. Hackers use this technique, called fuzzing, to see if they can cause programs to fail, or perhaps even run unauthorized software when they are bombarded with unexpected data.

The researchers have not divulged any details of the hacks as they are waiting for the limelight of the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
