Jeanson James Ancheta, 21 of California is going away for a spell. 5 years in lockup to be exact. Ancheta ran a massive botnet that he used to run spam and denial of service operations on a rental basis.
His network of thousands of zombie computers included machines at the Weapons Division of the US Naval Air Warfare Centrer in China Lake, California, as well as other US Department of Defense PCs.
Well, it was all in vain as he was sentenced under the Computer Fraud Abuse Act and others. The days if hacking for the fun of it have given way to a darker cash driven business dominated by spammers, malware and the mafia.
